Atama soup may not be as popular as Edikainkong or Afang of
the Cross River and Akwa Ibom people but this is another sumptuous dish of the
Efik region.
It is nutritious, belly-warming as well as tasty and most
importantly, easy to make. It is specially prepared for first time visitors and
most women from that area equally make it for their husbands to appease them
after a disagreement.
The nutritional content of the palm fruits cannot be over
emphasised. It is low in fats and contains little or no cholesterol.
The soup is also made with periwinkle, another vitamin laden
item.
In all, Atama soup is appreciated not only by the Efik but
by so many other Nigerians and non Nigerians who have had the opportunity of
tasting the dish.
