Breaking News: Explosion On Benue Bridge – Traffic Diverted To The Old Bridge, Causalities Feared

A powerful explosion rocked the new bridge in Makurdi, Benue State, which links the Northern part of the nation to the southern part, on June 17, 2014, Tuesday, around 3pm.
According to a report by Daily Trust, the explosion was caused following a collision between a tanker transporting Premium Motor Spirit and a Peugeot 406.
A local resident confirmed that the reason of the blast was vehicles accident, lamented over horrible gridlock and possible casualties.
Security operatives have organised diversion of traffic from the ever-busy new bridge to the old bridge, Northbank, Makurdi. The information on the number of victims was not available at the time of filing the present report.

The affected bridge is crucial in linking travelers across the River Benue to the northern parts of Nigeria.
