A FORMER Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar
Tsav, has said that the Presidency was behind the impeachment notice given to
Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State, noting that the present administration
now operates like a military government.
He also said that the closure of Yola airport yesterday, was
done to ensure that the state governor remained in the state so as to serve him
the notice.
Tsav in a statement regretted that Nyako had been excluded
from different meetings convened by the Federal Government on the security
situation in that part of the country, while other governors whose states are
under emergency rule were invited.
His words: “The purported service of impeachment notice on
Governor Nyako and his deputy, from all indication, shows that the Federal
Government has hands in the saga.
“Firstly, Nyako was not invited for meeting of ‘save school
initiative’ in Abuja with former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, while his
Borno and Yobe counterparts whose states are also under emergency rule were
invited.
“Secondly, Yola airport was deliberately closed yesterday to
prevent Nyako from travelling in order to facilitate the service of impeachment
notice on him. This constitutes wrongful confinement, intimidation and act of
indignation to a democratically elected governor and could be invitation to chaos.
“All airports in Nigeria are under Federal Government. No one can close any
airport in Nigeria without the consent or authorisation of the President. We
see the hands of the President in this
saga. He has become an emperor with military powers.”
