Court adjourns case against Fayose till June 30

                                                          Mr. Ayodele Fayose
An Ekiti State High Court on Monday adjourned a case seeking to stop the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, from contesting the June 21 governorship election, till June 30.

Justice Olusegun Ogunyemi adjourned the case following an objection raised by Fayose’s counsel, Mr. Ahmed Raji (SAN).

The plaintiff, Ekiti-Eleven, is seeking the court to compel Fayose to explain circumstances surrounding his 2006 impeachment.

The applicant contended that the former Ekiti governor failed to disclose vital information regarding the grounds of his impeachment in form CFO1 submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The defendants are Fayose, the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Peoples Democratic Party.

At the resumed hearing on Monday, the plaintiff’s lead counsel, Mr. Norrison Quakers (SAN), pleaded for accelerated hearing of the case.

He submitted that the case was ripe for accelerated hearing because the defendants had been served the notice after the court ruled that fayose be served through substituted means.

But in a counter argument, Raji argued that the case before the court was not ripe for hearing since there was no written application.

He said the case could still continue even if his client eventually won the Saturday election.
